We are a two-person indie game team based in France, composed of a French and a Chinese member. GATE OF CHAOS is our first game, developed over the past year in our spare time while learning and refining our skills in game creation. It features hand-drawn illustrations with frame-by-frame animation and composited effects, surreal visuals, and click-based symbol puzzles with built-in hints and an in-game notebook. The game marks the beginning of a planned 3-part series exploring seven symbolic gates — each inspired by the ancient culture and mythology of Sichuan, my hometown. The series draws on Chinese philosophy, where all things originate from chaos. This first chapter, centers on the idea of “undying” (“不息”), which underpins both the visual and the puzzle design.
