Mirage

By: Alissar Laika, Athanasios Tohme, Yuan Qi
Genre: All public
Platform: PC
Country: Syria, France, Greece

This interactive installation explores a narrative of memory and displacement, inspired by personal recollections of Syria and the sensation of existing simultaneously in two spaces. Through two distinct scenes, the user is invited to drift through fragmented memories rather than actively control them. Built using Unreal Engine and TouchDesigner, the experience relies on subtle, observational interactions. Head movements allow the user to look around the environment, while blinking enables limited interaction with objects. This system draws from the language of virtual reality while deliberately maintaining a passive mode of engagement. By restricting agency, the experience emphasizes contemplation and discovery, reinforcing the idea of memories as distant, fragile, and untouchable. Visual elements such as particle-based forms and point-cloud–like structures contribute to a dreamlike atmosphere, where environments feel both present and elusive—mirroring the unstable nature of memory itself.
