Thorsten S. Wiedemann is the founder and artistic director of A MAZE., a cultural platform exploring the intersection of games and digital culture. Through festivals, exhibitions, workshops, and experimental formats, he curates spaces for independent and arthouse games as well as playful media.
With A MAZE. / Berlin and A MAZE. / Johannesburg (2012–2017), he established two international festivals dedicated to showcasing independent games culture and experimentation beyond the mainstream. Under the A MAZE. umbrella he has initiated numerous formats including A MAZE. Magazine, A MAZE. / Space, artist residencies such as The Brain and Playful Obscura, and events like A MAZE. Train Jam South Africa and the A MAZE. Fulldome Game Jam.
Since 2012 he has led the A MAZE. Awards, honoring outstanding and artistic works in independent games across five categories. His curatorial focus lies in fostering interdisciplinary discourse and bridging the gaps between games, art, and technology.
He also performs the durational VR performance Disconnected as VR Naut, spending 48 hours continuously in virtual reality. Thorsten lives and works in Berlin.
